The role of the CGP
The role of the Wealth Management Advisor (CGP)
A wealth management advisor doesn't sell investments. They answer three key questions: what your assets cost you each year, what they generate after taxes, and what they will leave to your loved ones. Everything else follows from that.
What a wealth management advisor does
What a wealth management advisor actually does
1. It calculates what you pay
Contract management fees, fees for each investment vehicle, custody fees: three layers that add up. The annual statement provides rates (Article L. 132-22 of the French Insurance Code), rarely in euros. On €500,000 invested at 2 % all inclusive, the bill is €10,000 per year. A financial advisor's first task is to provide you with this figure, contract by contract.
2. It reduces the tax
A contribution to a PER (Retirement Savings Plan) is deductible from taxable income, up to a limit of 10% of professional income (Article 163 quatervicies of the French General Tax Code): €20,000 contributed to a tax bracket of 41% saves €8,200. A assurance-vie policy held for more than eight years offers an annual allowance of €4,600 on withdrawals, or €9,200 for a couple (Article 125-0 A of the French General Tax Code). The wealth management advisor (CGP) determines the order and frequency of contributions.
3. He organizes the transmission
Each assurance-vie beneficiary receives up to €152,500 free of inheritance tax on premiums paid before age 70 (Article 990 I of the French General Tax Code). A gift of bare ownership is taxed only on a fraction of the value, depending on the donor's age (Article 669 of the French General Tax Code). For a business owner, the Dutreil agreement exempts 75% of the value of the transferred securities (Article 787 B of the French General Tax Code). The wealth management advisor (CGP) combines these tools and coordinates the notary and lawyer.
4. It follows, year after year
A finance law, a move abroad, a business sale—these can all change your strategy. At Balmont Conseil, your annual review is free, and your contracts, calculations, and documents remain in your Balmont Wealth OS account, accessible to your advisor.
Typical case
Typical case: three old contracts, €15,180 per year recovered
SituationA 54-year-old executive and his wife, with a tax bracket of 41 %, hold three assurance-vie policies opened in banks between 2004 and 2012: €780,000 in total.
IssueManagement fees of 0.9 % and investment funds at 1.3 %: 2.2 % per year, or €17,160 annually. Their bank is suggesting they close everything and open a new contract.
StrategyKeep the three contracts, which are over eight years old and provide the couple with an annual tax allowance of €9,200; transfer them to investments with a return of 0.3 % available in the same contracts; pay €18,000 per year into a PER.
ResultCosts reduced to €9,360 per year, i.e. €7,800 saved, and €7,380 less tax each year thanks to the PER: €15,180 per year, without closing anything.
Bank or financial advisor
What a wealth management advisor offers that a bank does not
A bank offers contracts from its group. Balmont Conseil has no financial ties to any bank or insurer and works with twenty-three partner companies and asset management firms, including Generali, Swiss Life, Allianz, CNP, La Mondiale, AXA, Lombard, Wealins, and OneLife. A single point of contact coordinates your notary, lawyer, and accountant.
For a family moving abroad, the difference is clear: some French insurers refuse payments from certain countries, whereas a Luxembourg contract is designed to follow its subscriber from one country to another.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions
At what level of wealth is a wealth management advisor (CGP) useful?
It's not a question of amount, but of complexity. A business to transfer, an asset or project abroad, contracts whose fees in euros you don't know: as soon as one of these situations exists, it's time to talk to a wealth management advisor.
Wealth management advisor or private banker: what's the difference?
The private banker recommends solutions from their bank. The wealth management advisor compares those of several insurers and asset management companies, and coordinates the other professionals involved in your case.
How does the first contact go?
A brief call to understand your situation. If we can help, we'll let you know and schedule a meeting. Please bring your latest contract statements and tax assessment notice.
Can my advisor continue to manage my contracts if I move abroad?
Yes, it's an important part of our business. The contracts remain open; what changes are the rules of the destination country and the position of each insurer. We check these before departure.
Your contracts already exist. Let's see what they cost you.
