Wealth management
Wealth management: three figures to know before any investment.
What your assets cost you each year, what they earn you after taxes, and what they will leave to your loved ones. Managing your assets means establishing these three figures, then improving them according to the rules of 2026.
The four parts
An estate is defined by law, taxation, investments, and protection.
Matrimonial property regime, beneficiary clauses, past gifts: these are what determine who receives what. A assurance-vie clause must be reviewed at each life event (Article L. 132-8 of the Insurance Code).
Your marginal tax bracket, the IFI beyond €1.3 million of net real estate assets (article 964 of the French General Tax Code), the flat-rate levy of 31.4% on capital income in 2026 (article 200 A of the CGI).
Euro funds, unit-linked funds, SCPIs, unlisted funds: each investment vehicle has its own cost and time horizon. We compare them. net of fees and tax, never on their stated performance.
Insurance, retirement, business interruption. A self-employed manager can deduct their insurance contributions up to €11,534.40 in 2026 (article 154 bis of the CGI).
The wrappers
Before choosing a placement, choose its container.
| Envelope | Tax on gains | Estate planning | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assurance-vie | After 8 years, a reduction of €4,600 €9,200 per year for a couple (article 125-0 A of the French General Tax Code) | Outside of inheritance: €152,500 per beneficiary (Article 990 I of the French General Tax Code) | At any time |
| PER | Payments deducted from income, up to a limit of 10 % of professional income (article 163 quatervicies of the CGI) | Like assurance-vie, for the insurance-based PER (Retirement Savings Plan) | Upon retirement, or earlier for the purchase of a primary residence (Article L. 224-4 of the Monetary and Financial Code) |
| PEA | Gains exempt from income tax after 5 years (article 157, 5° bis of the French General Tax Code) | In the succession | Free withdrawals after 5 years; contributions capped at €150,000 |
| Securities account | 31.4 % in 2026 (article 200 A of the CGI) | In the inheritance, capital gains are erased upon death. | At any time |
| SCPI direct | Rental income according to the tax scale, plus 17.2 % in social security contributions | In the succession | Resale of shares, depending on the market |
The same SCPI can be held in a assurance-vie policy: it then takes on the taxation and transfer of the contract.
Worked example
€600,000 to be transferred: €61,000 less in taxes.
A 63-year-old businesswoman, widowed, with two adult children. €600,000 of cash in term deposit accounts.
Through inheritance, each child receives €300,000. After the €100,000 allowance (Article 779 of the French General Tax Code), €200,000 is taxed according to the following scale: €38,194 €76,388 per child in total.
To pay €305,000 into a assurance-vie policy before age 70, with two children as equal beneficiaries. Each receives €152,500 excluding taxes (Article 990 I of the French General Tax Code). The contract remains available at any time.

Frequently asked questions
What clients ask us.
At what point in terms of assets should one seek the services of an advisor?
It's not a question of amount, but of complexity: a business to transfer (Dutreil agreement, article 787 B of the French General Tax Code), an asset or project abroad, contracts whose fees in euros you don't know. As soon as one of these situations arises, it's time to discuss it.
How much does a wealth management advisor cost?
At Balmont Conseil, each application review has a fixed price, announced before any commitment, and a customized assignment is billed at €500 including VAT per hour, per engagement letter. For contracts taken out through us, the insurer pays us a commission, the amount of which is specified in the documents provided before any signature. The annual follow-up review is free.
Should you close an old assurance-vie contract?
Rarely. After eight years, an annual tax allowance of €4,600 is granted on withdrawals, or €9,200 for a couple (Article 125-0 A of the French General Tax Code). The investment options within the contract are usually changed when fees are too high.
What does a wealth statement contain?
Your assets and debts, your income and taxes, your family situation—marital regime, beneficiary clauses (Article L. 132-8 of the Insurance Code), past gifts. And three figures: what your contracts cost you per year, what you pay in taxes, what your heirs would pay.
I am moving abroad: what happens to my investments?
They remain open. What changes: the tax laws of the destination country, the tax treaty it has with France, and your insurer's position—some refuse payments from certain countries. We check these points before departure in the 128 countries and territories that have a tax treaty with France.
