We use 3 PASS. With the 1 PASS cap, the allowance would be €65.84 per day, totaling €5,727.70 over 87 days and a shortfall of €64,272 over 12 months.

This coverage is financed by a daily allowance contribution collected by the Urssaf (French social security agency). The Urssaf page published in 2024 gives a rate of 0.30 % of income up to a limit of 3 times the annual social security ceiling (PASS); we have not seen the 2026 rate. The CIPAV (French pension fund for self-employed professionals) specifies that the contribution is collected by the Urssaf and that the benefit is paid by the CPAM (French national health insurance fund).

3. From the 91st day onwards: what Cipav does not pay

This is the point architects are discovering latest. Before 2021, only certain sections of the National Pension Fund for the Liberal Professions (doctors, paramedical professionals, chartered accountants, dentists, midwives) paid benefits starting on the 91st day, according to the National Old-Age Insurance Fund for the Liberal Professions (CNAVPL). The CIPAV (Interprofessional Pension Fund for Liberal Professions) is not on this list, and none of the CIPAV's 2026 fact sheets I consulted mention daily allowances after the 90th day. The service-public.gouv.fr fact sheet simply states that from the 90th day onward, the contact is no longer the CPAM (Primary Health Insurance Fund) but the pension fund, and refers users to the fund for information on the amounts.

Our calculation therefore retains €0 between the 91st day and the recognition of a disability. This is based on an interpretation of official documents, not a statement from the pension fund: written communication with Cipav, or through your personal online account, confirms your individual situation. Furthermore, a disability pension requires a permanent and definitive disability (Cipav's 2023 practical guide), which excludes long but still reversible periods of absence.

4. It is paid to the spouse, civil partner, children under 21, designated beneficiaries, and then dependents. The survivor's pension for a spouse or child is a lump sum of 1.5 times the annual social security ceiling (PASS) (€720.90) plus one-tenth of the pension points multiplied by €3.01; it ceases at age 21 for a child (age 25 if they are studying) and upon remarriage or a new civil partnership for the spouse. For the disability-death contribution, we apply the 26% allowance from the contribution base reform, as with retirement: the Cipav 2026 statements do not specify this for this scheme. If the contribution were calculated on €70,000 without the allowance, it would be €350.00 and the total disability pension €29,415.82. We do not deduct other mandatory contributions from the reference profit, the amount of which depends on each individual's situation: each €10,000 reduction in taxable profit lowers the deduction limit by €375.

7. The Madelin deduction: the ceiling and tax savings per bracket

Article 154 bis of the French General Tax Code (CGI) allows self-employed individuals subject to non-commercial profits (BNC) to deduct contributions to a voluntary group insurance contract from their profits. The Official Bulletin of Public Finances (BOFiP, BOI-BIC-CHG-40-50-40-20, No. 90) sets the limit: 3.75 % of taxable profit plus 7 % of the PASS, without exceeding 3 % of 8 PASS, with a floor of 7 % of the PASS. The PASS is that of the year the financial year ends (€48,060 for 2026), i.e., a floor of €3,364.20 and a maximum of €11,534.40. The reference profit is that before deduction of contributions and optional premiums.

The tax saving is not a single rate. The deducted bonus reduces the amount of taxable income: it is therefore assessed bracket by bracket according to the 2026 tax scale (11 % from €11,600 to €29,579; 30 % up to €84,577; 41 % up to €181,917 per share, Law No. 2026-103, Article 4). From the 4th to the 90th day, the CPAM (French National Health Insurance Fund) pays 1/730th of the average of the individual's income over the last three years, which is half of their income: €95.89 per day for an income of €70,000, up to a maximum of €197.51 per day in 2026 (capped at 3 times the annual social security ceiling). The CNAVPL indicates that only certain sections of liberal professions (doctors, paramedical professionals, chartered accountants, dentists, midwives) had a scheme starting on the 91st day. Written confirmation from Cipav clarifies this for individual cases.

What disability pension will Cipav pay in 2026?

There are no longer any classes: the total pension is a fixed amount of €2,403 plus one-third of the points acquired through a contribution of 0.5 % of income, valued at €3.01 per point. In the case of recognized total disability, the pension is approximately €22,392 per year, leaving a shortfall of €47,608 per year. These amounts are gross and based on the assumptions in section 6.

Up to what amount can a Madelin pension contract be deducted?

Up to 3.75 times the taxable profit plus 7 times the annual social security ceiling (PASS), up to a limit of 3 times 8 times the PASS, with a minimum of 7 times the PASS.
